Maddie in her thoughts of course hadn't been paying attention on her bike ride home from the park. She couldn't quite remeber what had happened, but she remebered a dog running out infront of her and her swerving the bike to avoid it only to run into a tree and get knocked off the bike. From there she remembered laying in pain at the bottom of a hill. She didn't know how she had managed to with all the pain she had been in but she had managed to call someone. She wasn't sure who it was, but they had found her and rushed her to the hospital.
She remebered that much because she remembered going in and out and a few times she had been looking up at a doctor and team of nurses rushing her into the ER on a streatcher. Between some of those points stuff was blurry. She remembered them trying to get x-rays and some tests, but she couldn't remember much of that. She finally was completely out by the time they were putting an iv into the top of her hand. They had told her something about not wanting to give her pain killers until she had taken tests and all that, but she had been so out of it that she hadn't been able to indicate what hurt and what didn't.
She laid there in her bed. She wasn't sure how long she had been out, but whoever was in there with her had the tv on because her hearing is the first thing that snapped to. Her hand reached up, towards what she wasn't sure, but she softly yelped in pain when she tried to turn her wrist. Then eyes fluttered open and everything was blurry for a moment before they focused back into place. She groaned softly and looked around the room. "Where am I?" She asked softly in a barely audible voice.

David had been waiting in this stupid white room for God knows how long. He had the tv on, but that was just for some soft noise. He lay in an awkward position on the bed beside the girl he had brought here, his arm above her head, his other at his side. He couldn't help but feel responsible for this. If he hadn't caused the argument between them, she would have never been in the park and wouldn't have had to ride her bike home. He gently swept his fingers over her hair and watched her sleep.
The doctors said she probably had a concusion, and definately had a lot of broken bones. He had helped them wrap a bandage around her stomach for her ribs, and held her hand while they splinted her wrist. When her parents had left for the night, he'd forced the doctors to let him stay and spend the night with her. It was around 11:00 at night and he was trying desperately to stay awake for her.
Suddenly she was awake, speaking and trying to move. He pushed her arm gently down to the bed again before she caused it more damage. Her entire arm was broken into different pieces and three of her ribs were cracked. "Ah," he said smiling weakly, "Sleeping Beauty awakes." He kissed her forehead lightly and stood up, giving her plenty of room to maneuvre herself.

She felt the weight next to her and she turned her head to look up at him. She felt him ease her arm back down realizing it was broken. She nearly panicked because she was afraid for a moment there it was her right hand. Had it been her right hand she would have freaked because there was no way on earth she could go more than a week without sketching or painting and she couldn't do either of those activities with her left hand. She looked at her arm for a minute then she realized it was David who had been laying in the bed with her. She looked to him and gave him a weak smile.
"I don't think Sleeping Beauty was in this much pain when she awoke from her deep slumber, and she got a kiss before she awoke." She remarked softly smiling very weakly as she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. She layed there trying to remember what all happened, but things were so blurry in places like the phone call for help and the ambulance ride, though she did remember hearing David talk to her from the front seat of a car as she layed in the back. That's when it clicked and her eyes fluttered open and she looked up at him. "You're the one I called. I'm sorry if I scared you." She said gently taking a deep breath as she closed her eyes again for a moment. Her eyes fluttered back open and she looked to the digital clock next to her bed then up at him. "What are you still doing here? I thought only family could stay after hours." She said gently as she sat up, but she grabbed at her stomach and whined loudly as a sharp pain shot through her and she laid back down. "I guess I banged myself up pretty good huh?" She asked gently as she reached her good hand up to her face touching a scratch that had been closed up with butterfly bandages. She had a few other small scrapes and bruises all over, but she was relieved to see that she had least managed to keep her legs intact.
She rubbed her throat gently realizing how dry it felt. She looked around the room and spotted the jug of water on the roller table that was in there. She reached out to it to find that she couldn't reach it and when she tried to lean forward her side hurt to much. "Could you help me out here, please?" She asked gently looking back to David. She hated that he was seeing her in such a vulnerable and weak state. She never liked it when people saw her when she seemed to be in a nulnerable or weak state. She was on the other hand happy to see him here even after their argument. She was starting to realize that he really did love her.

David smiled, "You did too." He remembered distinctly kissing her every hour, trying to feel the life inside her, trying to prove to himself that she was ok. It hadn't been easy to convince himself that the rise and fall of her chest was breathing and not bones floating around inside her. He winced at the thought and pushed it away. "You did scare me, but not because you called. Because I thought I'd lost you before I had the chance to fix what I'd done." He looked up at the tv, the game was over. His team had lost 62 - 21. He sighed. It was an all around bad day.
He smiled softly, "Ya you were pretty beat up when I found you. You probably don't want to know what happened."
He reached over and poured her a fresh glass of water, holding it up to her lips so she could drink without hurting herself.

She sighed softly and laughed weakly, but she hissed in pain and her hand reached to one of her sides. She looked up at him at his words and gave him a weak smile. "Well, considered it fixed now." She murmured gently looking at him then up to the tv in thought. She looked back to him and frowned soflty. "Oh, I remember all to well what happened, it's what happened once I made it to the bottom of the hill and from then on that everything's fuzzy." She said gently looking at him as she took a deep breath.
She watched him as he fixed her a glass of water and she smiled gently. She took a sip then reached to the roller table and pulled it closer to the bed. She took the glass from his hand and took another sip then set it down on the table within reach. She then looked at him and took his hand into her good one. "I'm sorry for over reacting about you flirting with Holly. I know how you are, but when we officially made it a relationship, I was kind of hoping that you would make an aeffort to stop it." She said gently looking from him down to their hands in thought.

He nodded, "Well you really don't want to know what happened after that." He smiled sheepishly. He could remember every detail, how she'd looked laying there so helplessly, no one to help her, and lost in the shadows of unconciousness. His thumb rubbed her hand ever so slightly, trying to be gentle with her, knowing very well that he could harm her very easily right now.
He nodded, "I did try," he said, "It's a reflex when I'm around the guys. They've never seen me act this way, and I don't know if they would like it." He stood up, "I forgot! Once I got the doctors to let me stay, I ran down to the store and got you something!" He walked behind a curtain draped with flowers from her friends and returned with a box shaped like a heart that was full of chocolates, and a giant teddy bear.
"Your mom said you'd like these," he recounted, "So I thought I'd try and help you feel better."

She looked at him and nodded. "I can't even remember the things I was saying when you had me laying across the backseat of the car. Everything was just a blur and muffled." She said gently looking at David then closed her eyes and shook her head softly as a flashback flashed through her head. She opened her eyes and looked back up at him. "I remember how scared I was the whole time though." She said gently.
She looked at him and nodded her head softly in understanding. "It's okay, you're forgiven, just... try a little harder next time, please." She said gently as she let out a soft sigh and closed her eyes gently for a moment. She watched him get up and a curious look crossed her face, but then she saw him pull out the chocolate box and the teddy bear. "The chocolate would have been enough. That's the best way to a girls heart when she's mad with you too." She said gently looking from the box to the teddy. She laughed weakly, but once again she cut it off with a hiss.

David smiled and placed them on her table, handing the teddy bear to her good arm and tucking it to her in a way that couldn't hurt her. "His name is fuzzles," he smiled broader. He kissed the bear, then her, and brushed her hair out of her face. His nose wrinkled slightly as he brushed the top of her head.
"No offense," he said quietly, "But let's ask the doctors about getting you a shower tomorrow." He laughed a bit and maneuvered into bed with her slowly, his eyes getting dry and heavy.

She smiled gently and looked at the gifts as he set them down then up at himas her weak smile broadened a little. She chuckled softly wincing at the pain that shot through her sides then looked down at the teddy bear as she piddled with his ear. "Thank you, David." She said gently looking at him and smiling weakly.
She looked up at him and smiled gently and nodded. "None taken. I guess I do kind of need one since my last shower was last night." She said sweetly looking at him as he carefully manuevered himself into the bed. She smiled sweetly at him then turned her head and nuzzled her nose into his shoulder gently. She would turn onto her side, but one, her side hurt too much to do that, so she just settled with what she could manage to do painfree. She closed her eyes and sighed softly slowly drifting back off to sleep.

David smiled and spoke, "You're welcome. And I didn't do it to try and get you to forgive me," he said, knowing that wasn't completely true, "I just wanted you to be happy while you were here." He placed his arm around her waist, the knowledge that she wasn't hurt their laying on him like a feather. He smiled to himself, his eyes shutting in the tired state of mind he was in. Oh, how he wanted to sleep. But he couldn't, not until Maddie did.
When she shut her eyes, and her breathing steadied, he allowed his mind to wander, drifting into a state that was dormant until it finally stopped and his breathing fell into rythm with hers.

She slept well through the rest of the night knowing that David was there next to her. She could smell his faint masculine scent as her head was nestled down on his shoulder. She awoke the next morning and saw her father sitting down next to the bed watching her and David. She smiled weakly and reached her good arm out to him. "Hey, Daddy." She murmured sweetly and she gave him a gentle smile when he smiled at her and took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Hey, sweetheart. How you feeling?" He asked gently in a hushed tone so not to disturb David.
"I feel like a stampede of horses ran right over me." She said smiling gently looking at her father. He laughed under his breath and nodded. "I imagine you do. I'm sorry I had to cancel on our plans for the park yesterday." He said gently looking at her with an apologetic look to his face. "It's okay, Daddy. We can reschedule it for another day." She murmured gently. He nodded and gave her a soft smile as he leaned over and kissed her softly on the forehead. He looked to David and smiled. "Did he ever go home last night?" He asked her gently.
Maddison looked to David and smiled gently before giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. "As far I know he stayed with me the whole night." She said gently looking back at her dad. "Where's Mama?" She asked gently. "She'll be up in a few hours with Dalton. She couldn't cancel a meeting she had this morning." He said gently looking at her. Maddison nodded her head and then looked up to the tv, which her dad had flipped to a movie.

A voice so familiar entered David's dreams and started him awake to find him being watched by Maddison's father as he talked to his daughter. David was immediately awake and carefully but hastily stood up. He shied away and nodded a good morning to the man, kissing Maddie on the cheek, "Good morning love." he said quietly, "I'm going to go clean up a bit and then maybe we can call the nurses for your own shower if you're feeling up to it this morning." He smiled and stood upright, heading into the bathroom to shower.
He turned the water on, sighing as it warmed up immediately. He stepped in and lathered soap over himself, wrinkling his nose at the new smell. He was so used to his own scent that the smell of hospital soap gave him a sore throat. He made a mental note to shower when he finally left the hospital. It could be a while since he didn't really plan to leave until Maddie did. He could live off of hospital food for a few days.
He finished up and put on his clothes again, smiling to himself as he ran a comb through his hair and shook it to it's usual look. He walked back out to the others about 5 minutes after he'd walked in and sat down in a chair, sipping on the coffee a nurse had brought this morning.

She looked to him and laughed gently wincing at the pain in her sides. She nodded gently and watched him walk into the bathroom then looked to her father just as a nurse walked in with a breakfast tray. "I hope you don't mind if I already ordered your breakfast for you. I figured you'd just want some scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast." Her father said as the nuse pulled the roller table over to maddie and set it down then she carefully helped Maddie sit up who was trying so hard not to cry from the pain. "Thanks, Daddy. I'll try and eat some, but I'm really not all that hungry." She said gently looking at him. Once they had set her up a little the nurse checked her IV while Maddie ate and her father watched tv. They both looked to David as he walked out and picked up his coffee the nurse had left for him and her father. Maddie slowly started to eat, but she didn't eat much. She just kind of picked at the bacon, eggs, and toast that the nurse had braught her. "Do you want some, David? " She asked gently looking up to him questioningly.

David watched her pick at her food and then scowled when he asked her to eat some, "Eat what you can, I'll take the rest." He got up out of his chair and opened the blinds to the large window in the room. Light poured into the small white room, flooding it with a much happier mood than it had had previously. The window overlooked a small pond, trees encircling it. Something that would have looked great on a canvas, but David knew Maddison could barely make a fist loosely, let alone hold a pencil.
He sat down in an armchair facing the window and sighed. He knew he should give her and her father privacy, they probably wanted to talk, and he knew her dad would have some questions after what he'd walked into this morning. David internally shook his head at his own idiocy. How could he have let himself fall asleep in Maddison's bed?!

She nodded gently and then she took a bite and slowly ate. She watched him as she ate picking at the food every now and then. She finally couldn't eat anymore and she just pushed the food away. She looked out the window then down at her splinted arm in thought. The only way she was going to be able to sketch for the next few weeks was on flat surfaces.
She watched David and something about him the way he was acting was making her feel like something was wrong. She looked to her father. "Daddy, could you go ask one of the nurses to bring me a pad of paper or something and a pencil?" She asked gently looking at her father questioningly. He smiled and nodded gently. "Of course, sweety." He said as he stood up and walked out of the room. She looked over to David after a moment. "Is something the matter, David?" She asked softly watching him with a curious look.
