David felt his ears perk at her voice and he turned slightly to look at her, "Nothing really," he said, smiling and chuckling to no one in particular, "I just wish that I had a piece of paper and a pencil." He stood up and took her plate and sat down at the foot of her bed. The food was gone quickly and he stuck his tongue out, "Ew," he said. He stood up and placed everything on the tray to be taken out next time a nurse came in.
"Ew," he said again, "Hospital food. Gag." He smiled and looked back at her, an urge to kiss her strongly flooding his body. He knew he couldn't because he could hurt her, but he wanted to every so badly.

She frowned softly and watched him. "I thought you couldn't sketch?" She asked teasingly as she watched him take what she hadn't eaten and ate it himself. She laughed, but she reached to her side and laid her head back groaning. "You're gonna have to stop making me laugh. It hurts too much." She said gently closing her eyes taking in a deep breath.
Her eyes fluttered open at the sound of the door and she looked up to see her father frowning gently as he placed the pad and pencil in her lap. "I just got called in for work, sweety. I have to go in." He said gently looking at her. "Didn't you tell them you couldn't?" She asked softly. "Yeah, I explained to them why to, but they couldn't get but one other person in so I don't have much choice." He said gently. She tried to give her a perky smile and kissed her lightly on the forehead. "You're mother and Dalton will be in for a bit in a couple of hours." He said gently as he brushed some of her hair behind an ear. "I would hug you goodbye, but it hurts too much to move." She said gently. "It's alright sweetheart." He said gently as he stood back up. "I love you, Daddy." She said gently watching as he walked to the door. He turned and smiled gently. "I love you too. I'll be back as soon as I can." He said gently before closing the door behind him.
Maddie just sighed and closed her eyes listening to the movie on the tv for a moment. She opened her eyes and looked back to David reaching her hand out to him.

David winced as she did, "I'm sorry, I'll lock my sense of humor in a box until you're better. Ok?" He game a meek smile and spoke again, "And I can draw, but not nearly as well as you can." He stood up as her father entered the room and scolded himself again mentally for being so horribly forward with this man's daughter and then being the same way every time he saw them together.
He listened to the conversation between them, his eyes narrowing with every word Maddie's dad spoke, but he nodded and waved to him anyway as he left. He shook his head when the man left and turned back to Maddie, concerned. He took her hand and squeezed it carefully, sitting down beside her, "Are you alright?"

She smiled gently at him. She had noticed his reaction to their conversation, but she didn't let it get to her. She looked at him at the feel of his hand in hers and she nodded gently. "Yeah, I guess I am." She said gently looking to the tv for a moment in thought then back to David. "I just wish he had stayed longer." She said gently looking down at her casted and splinted hand then their hands then to theirs. She laced her fingers with his and looked back up at him. "How could I survive something like this without you around?" She asked sweetly as she laid their hands over her heart gently.
"You know, this is the first time I've ever broken a bone in my entire life." She said gently smiling softly at him.

David smiled, "Good, beacuse otherwise I'd have to go make him quit his job." He sat down where her father had been earlier and nodded to a nurse as she came in to take the tray away, scowling to David before leaving. "You wouldn't have survived this if you didn't have me because you couldn't have dialed my number and I wouldn't have been close enough to get you as quickly as I did." He shook his head. His eyes downcast and his voice low with the effort of keeping it level.
He grimaced, "I've broken a few in my life. Not all were mine, but I've broken a few."

She sighed softly and smiled looking at him. "I think maybe this will be a wake-up call for him. We were supposed to go out to the park together, but then he got called into work and he promised that it wouldn't take him that long and that he would meet me there later. Then he called to tell me that he wasn't going to make it. That's when I called you to talk to you." She said gently as she looked at her splinted arm in thought. She closed her eyes for a moment then looked back up at him. "I think he feels a little guilty about all of this. I could see it in his eyes." She said gently looking back at David. When she had looked into her father's eyes earlier when she woke up she hadn't just seen worry, but she had seen guilt and regret deep down inside of his eyes.
She frowned softly and nodded. "I don't even know how you managed to find me in the first place. From what I rememeber I never said where on the road I had fallen." She said gently as she gave his hand a gentle squeeze to comfort him. She lifted his hand and kissed it gently then sighed listening to him. She smiled weakly and nodded.

David smiled, "If you honostly want to know how I knew where you were..." he looked away, unable to continue. Another nurse walked in, this one smiling brightly and cheerfully. She greeted David with a handshake and a smile and then handed a pad of paper and a pencil to Maddie. She told her to enjoy it and David walked her out, happy that someone around her seemed to be treating his girl kindly.

She tilted her head listening to him, but then he was interrupted by a nurse. She was happy to see a smiling nurse. It was probably the first one she had seen while she had been here. She nodded and thanked her for the pencil and paper and then watched as she walked out. She watched David as he led her out then he came back to her. She smiled weakly and looked down at the paper in thought. "How did you know where to find me, David?" She asked gently looking back up at him as she reached her hand out to him gently.

David shook his head, "Honostly? I didn't go home after you left. I couldn't go anywhere, I needed time to be alone and think. I felt awful and my only thoughts were how could I fix this." He sat down, taking her hand and placing it on his leg with his own. "I was sitting on the bench when you called me and I got into the car, going in the general direction of where you'd dissapeared. I saw skid marks and pulled over, walked a few yards, and then saw the bark scrape off the tree you'd hit and the treads stopped. Not to mention there was blood running down the hill from the trees you'd hit on the way down."
He stopped and looked at her sharply, "It isn't something I'll forget."

She felt the smallest hint of a headache coming on when he sat and took her hand. She listened to him and frowned softly. Things were starting to jog her memory. Like that painful fall down the hill. She knew she hit a few trees and when she fell she must have hit her head on a rock because she knew she had a concussion. She felt so guilty now. Not only had she landed herself in the hospital because she hadn't been paying attention, but she had upset and worried David. She gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
"I'm sorry that I put this into your memories." She said gently looking back up at him. There was much senserity and and apology in her violet eyes. They didn't shine like they usually did either. That would change once she was up and moving about though. "I should have been paying attention to my surroundings. I knew that that would bite me in the butt one day." She murmured gently looking down at her splinted hand. She lifted it up and loooked at it for a moment. She knew there was no way on earth they weren't going to let her leave the hospital without a cast to keep it protected while her arm was mending.

David nodded, "Don't worry, it's deserved." He smiled at her words, forcing it out in hopes that it would lighten her spirit but knowing it would fail. "And as for noticing your surroundings, you're obviously mistaken. You notice enough to do those wonderful paintings of yours! This could have happened to anyone. Think of it this way, you saved someone else from enduring it!"

She looked at him and shook her head. "No you don't. I was mad with you, yeah, but not so much that I wanted to scare the hell out of you." She said gently looking at her arm in thought then back up at him. She looked down at her hand in thought again and frowned softly. "That's the artistic side of me that pays attention to every little detail I see, David. When I'm upset over something and I'm thinking I tend to forget what I'm doing and where I am. Only God knows how far I would've gotten if the dog hadn't run out infront of me." She said gently looking up at him. The light in her violet eyes was missing. She was just so weak and vulnerable and she hated that David was seeing her in such a weak and vulnerable state.

David shook his head, "No, don't say that." he snapped cruelly, immediately regretting it, "I just mean, I don't want to think about that. All that matters right now is that you are safe. If you had been hurt worse..." he trailed off, unable to continue as his voice choked in his throat and caused him to shudder. He took her hand into both of his and squeezed it carefully, "You're alive, and that's what I want to think about. Nothing else like that."

She jumped as he snapped at her. She looked down at her lap in thought, but then she heard him talking to him in a gentler tone and she looked up at him. She nodded her head in agreement. "I just don't want you going and thinking you diserved being scared senseless. You didn't diserve that no matter how much you think that." She said gently looking at him feeling herself perk up a little at his gentle hand squeeze. She looked down at his hands on hers and lifted them to her face and she nuzzled them then kissed the knuckles. "You didn't diserve to be scared like that and you certainly didn't diserve the chewing out I gave you when I knew that you flirt around with girls all the time." She said gently looking up at him with a soft and comforting expression. "I just let my jelousy get the best of me and blamed you for it." She admitted feeling a little embarrassed with herself for letting her jelousy getting the best of her. She laid his hands down in her lap and looked at them for a minute before looking up at him with a sweet gentle smile.

((Slap me if I do this to you again! The wait I mean.))
"All that matters is that we're ok, and you're still here. Nothing more, nothing less. Everything is ok." He squeezed her hand gently so he wouldn't hurt her. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, handing it to her. "I bought you something that I hoped would make things better." He'd gone to the jewler and spent some serious cash on a little silver ring with a tiny purple jewel. It was dainty and small, perfectly sized to her finger and something he knew she'd love.
David smiled and kissed her forehead, looking down at his watch as he pulled back. "I have to go." he said sadly, "I'll come back soon, they'll take good care of you while I'm gone. I'll bring some things for you to do when I get back. Anything inparticular I get for you?" He stood up and walked over to his bag, stuffing a few things into it and slinging it over his shoulder and awaiting her answer. He hoped she wasn't angry with him for leaving.
