She smiled gently and squeezed his hands as well, but it was a weak attempt on her part. She was about to closer her eyes and relax for a moment, but then she saw him pull out the little black box. She looked up at him confused then down at the box as she opened it. She smiled brightly and a small bigt of that twinkle came back into her eyes as she looked at the ring. She looked back up at him smiling gently. "You're spending to much money on me." She remarked getnly as he kissed her forehead.
She looked down at his watch and then back up at him frowing when he said he had to go. She sighed and sat back slowly easing herself against the bed that she had adjusted upright. She thought for a moment looking at him. "A book, maybe." She said gently watching him gather his stuff. She looked up as a knock came to the door and her best friend since childhood, Nicole Martins, stepped in. "Hey Nicole." She said sweetly looking at the girl.
"Wow, I thought you're mom was kidding when she said you really banged yourself up." She said gently looking at Maddie. She looked to David and gave a gentle smile. "Hey, David" She said gently before she walked over and sat down next to Maddie's bed.
"He was just leaving, and I was about to beg him not to because I didn't want to be by myself, but it looks like I won't have to now that you've showed up."Maddie said sweetly looking from David to Nicole. The two girls laughed in unison, but then Maddie grimaced and reached to her side gently. She looked back up at David smiling weakly with the ring box still in her hand. "You can go ahead. I'll be fine with Nicole here." She said gently watching him.
Nicole looked over at him and nodded her agreement. She was a good friend to Maddie and she sometimes wondered how on earth she could surivive without Nicole around. Nicole hadn't approved of David at first when Maddie told her about them dating mainly because of David's rep at school. Then she saw how happy Maddie was and how much he inspirted her and she couldn't help, but accept David and Maddie's relationship. It was kind of cute really.
