She burried her face in her knees again listening to the sound of Mr. Deharts voice. She looked up to him when he walked over to Ryan. She could see how much he was hurting and she understood. She had her father's old camera sitting on a shelf in her bedroom and whenever she was feeling really down she would take it off the shelf and run her hands over it staring at it for the longest time. She looked back to Mr. Dehart and couldn't help but blush at his words. "If only he knew about the navel piercing." She thought to herself and a small smile formed onto her soft lips as she looked up at him. She slowly eased her feet back to the ground and looked to Ryan standing gently.
She frowned softly looking to the hallway then back at Ryan. "As much as I hate just setting foot in hospitals I don't care. I just want to see Thomas." She said gently looking at her hands for a moment in thought. She looked back up at him and brushed away the tears that she felt running down her cheeks. Her composure was slowly leaving her and she felt like she was going to break down any minute. She looked back to Ryan and then down at the little blue car. She reached to it and took Ryan's hand and placed the car in it then covered it with his fingers. "I know what it's like to lose somebody you love, and I know it's hard but you have to let go of him to an extent, Ryan. I didn't know Greg, but I'm pretty sure that if he could see you that he wouldn't want to see you like this. The best thing for you to do is to hold what good memories of him you have dearly, but don't let them eat you alive." She said gently looking at him as she sniffed back some tears before she looked to Mr. Dehart down the hall. She looked back to him and patted his hand holding the car gently with her own then started to follow Thomas's dad towards Thomas's room.

"I know what you mean since if he wasn't in here then I know that I wouldn't be in here. I hate being in the place, it gives me the creeps." He said and then heard what she said to him, he knew that she was right. And after hearing that he knew that sometime within the next week he'd end up out at the grave since he hadn't been out there in a long time. And since his family had moved away after his death it was up to him to keep everything clean and neat. It was the only type of gardening work he did. If you could call pulling weeds from around a grave gardening. He knew better then to plant flowers or something because he couldn't even keep his moms flowers alive. Now they paid somebody else to water the flowers and tend to the garden and flower bed. He wanted to say something to her but he didn't know what he really could say. So he just shoved the car back into his pocket and started to make his way out of the door. "Come on, I'd hate to make Thomas wait any longer." He said and then began to make his way down the hallway. And he knew that Jeanette was right behind him, or at least he thought so. He began to follow Mr. Dehart toward Thomas's temporary room. There were a lot of twists and turns in their route but a few moments later he was staring at Thomas again.
Thomas looked worse then when he had last seen him. It looked like he'd been worked over by a baseball bat and if he hadn't been there he would have thought of that. He never would have thought that Alex could do so much damage in so little time. Although, he didn't even look like he was conscious because his eyes were closed. But as he moved further inside of the room he watched as one slowly opened and a small attempt was made by him to talk. But if Thomas had said anything, he hadn't heard it.
"The doctors suspect that there could be some damage done internally by the way that he reacts. You can literally draw a circle around the area where he flinches when they touch. And it's a decent sized circle but they don't know what's really been done yet. They do know that there's a very small crack in the bone right below his eye. And that he's got a pretty serious concussion that occurred sometime in the scuffle with Alex." Mr. Dehart said before stopping, there really was nothing else that he could fill them in on.

She looked at him and nodded gently in understanding. She didn't get the creeps when she came to a hospital. She was reminded of the wreck just looking at an ambulance. She followed Ryan and Mr. Dehart through the maze of halls until they made it to Thomas's room. She stopped in her tracks at the sight of him. That's all it took for her too. She walked over to a chair next to the hospital bed and sat down letting go of the tears. She listened to Thomas's dad. She wanted so bad to reach out for Thomas's hand, but she was afraid to touch him for fear that she would hurt him somehow.
"This is... all of... m-my fault." She said as she covered her face crying gently. She felt so guilty because had she not been there then Ryan could have helped Thomas instead of worrying about her. She was starting to wish that she hadn't gone with them now. Maybe just maybe everything would have been different. Maybe Thomas and Ryan would have came back to Ryan's place with only minor injuries that were easy to care for.

He listened to what Jeanette said and he really wanted to comfort her but he didn't know how he could. Since he couldn't tell her that everything would be fine because nobody knew that. Although he knew one thing that he could say, and it was the truth. "It isn't your fault, like I told you before if you hadn't been there then things could have been much worse. You see, he was scared about going over there and you gave him the confidence to at least try." He said quietly as he listened to the noise of the hospital for a moment. He could never imagine working here it was just too stressful of an environment. Not to mention death was all around that place and he knew he couldn't take that. "Maybe when Alex gets better he'll apologize for all of this." He said knowing that now that Alex was somewhere that he could actually get help that there actually was hope for him getting better now. He watched as Thomas moved his left had a few inches toward where Jeanette was.
"I think he can hear you. And that's just his way of telling you that he needs to know that you're there. Then again, I could be wrong since Thomas is very hard to understand at times." He said and then forced himself to smile slightly. He knew that what he said was probably completely off but he knew that Thomas wouldn't mind him making something like that up.

She looked up at Ryan and shook her head trying to sniff back her tears. "And you're point is? If I hadn't been there then you could have helped him, Ryan. I know that it's doubtful that he wouldn't have gotten hurt, but if I hadn't been there you could've have stopped Alex instead of worrying about me." She said frustratedly as she tried to wipe at her tears even though it wasn't going to help any. Her composure had flown out the window.
She looked to Thomas then down at his hand. She took it into hers and she finally understood what the gesture had meant because he had done the same thing on the way to the hospital. She realized it must of been his way to try and comfort her. She leaned down and kissed his hand gently and looked to Thomas's battered looking face. "I'm so sorry this happened, Thomas." She said gently as she looked to their hands linked together. She didn't think that there would be anyway that anybody could try and take her out of the room without Thomas now. If the nurses or the doctors wanted her away from him they would more than likely have to drag her out kicking and screaming.

He listened to what she said and he was beginning to wonder if she was actually right. But he knew that he probably wouldn't have been able to get over to Thomas before Alex had pulled him down anyway. Since he'd been laying on the ground still and he most likely couldn't have been able to able to stop Alex from doing most of the stuff when Thomas and him were attacking each other. Since it all happened so fast he probably wouldn't have gotten up in time. He watched how she was with Thomas though and he knew that she really cared about him. "He's lucky to have somebody like you right now. Since I know a lot of people would have just left him at the hospital." He said and then began to pace around the room for a moment. That was, until the doctor showed up.
"There's good news and then there's bad news. The good news is that he's only got some bruising going on and there is no internal bleeding that we can find. The bad news is that his concussion is a serious one. But everything should be fine, if he gives it time to heal." The doctor said and then looked around and then he left without another word.
A look of relief appeared on Ryan's face. So Thomas wasn't hurt as badly as he had originally thought. But, it was still bad enough that he knew Thomas would probably have to miss a decent chunk of the football season. Maybe he could convince him that the two of them should join the golf team this year.

She looked up at Ryan sniffing back tears that still spilled down her cheek no matter what she tried to do about them. She looked back to Thomas' as her thumb gently brushed over his knuckles. "I'm not going to leave him here by himself when I know what it's like to be stuck in a hospital bed for an ungodly amount of time." She said gently looking to Thomas's face. Her other hand reached up to his face and she hesitantly at first brushed his hair out of his eyes. She snatched her hand away when she heard the doctor walking in, but she didn't let go of his hand. She turned and looked up at him brushing what tears she could off her cheek even though it was a feeble attempt.
She listened to the doctor and she felt the knot in her stomach loosen a little at the words he spoke. She looked back to Thomas feeling a bit more relieved that he would be okay. "His football season is ruined isn't it?" She asked Ryan gently looking at Thomas as her thumb continued to brush over his knuckles.

"Yes, but you're going to have to leave him to eat and things like that. Since it's not a good thing it you don't eat for a few days. You kind of end up losing a bunch of strength. I didn't mean to not eat for a few days but I was really sick for the flu and I could hardly keep the medication I was being given down." He said and then wondered if that was the last time that his parents had came home early from a business trip. And that was a year ago and now that he thought about it his parents had probably been forced to come home by Jesse or somebody calling them up and telling them how sick he was. He really hoped that he didn't get that sick this winter again because he could hardly take laying in his bed for days again. It had been very odd having his mother there to take care of him though. Since before that he couldn't remember the last time that she had actually taken care of him. It probably had been when he was ten or so and he'd broken his wrist.
"Well, it could be and it couldn't be. It's safe to say that he's definitely going to be missing a few practices. It all depends on how fast of a healer he is. But it's safe to say that he isn't going to happy when he finds that he's probably going to have to miss the first few games." He said and then looked over to Thomas, he knew that he'd be very upset when he found everything out.

She looked to him and shrugged her shoulders gently. "I can get me some food from the hospital cafateria and bring it back in here if I get hungry, and I could always nibble on whatever he leaves when the nurses bring him food. Either way I'm not leaving this hospital. As much as I hate just looking at a hospital, I know what it's like to sit in a hospital bed with nothing to do, and there are times where you just don't want to be alone." She said gently looking at Thomas. She could always nibble on whatever he left from the food they would bring him too. Not that she would want to eat all that much right now.
She listened to Ryan and the frown on her face grew a little as she looked at Thomas. "And it's his Senior year." She murmured softly looking down at their hands. She hated that he was going to miss the first few games. She knew how important to the team Thomas was. She reached up and brushed away the tears that had been falling down her cheek. Why did all of this have to happen. It was like God wanted her to be miserable or something. First her father and her skating abilities, now Thomas. She felt like she was a bad luck charm.

"I've got to warn you, he might push you away. Because he's done that plenty of times with people when he's been sick or hurt. He's even done that with me." He said as he looked at Jeanette, he wasn't trying to scare her it was just the facts. There was something about Thomas that when he got sick or hurt that he got really unpleasant to be around and if you didn't leave when he told you to then he'd just ignore you. Jeanette had already witnessed that though when Thomas had gotten angry at them last night and then he just went to sleep. He knew that there was good chance that he wouldn't be like that though because of the fact that he was in a hospital. Then again, he could just get angry out of fear and start telling them to leave him alone or something. Not to mention, if he got like that then it could be a problem for the doctors. "The last time that he was in here he tried escaping and would have succeeded if I hadn't dragged him back to his room." He said and then looked over to where Thomas was, he wouldn't try escaping just yet that was for sure.
"Yeah, but things could be worse. Besides, sure he might just be a bench warmer for the first few games but he's going to make sure his opinion is heard. Not to mention whoever takes over his position for that little bit of time is going to get a bunch of counseling from him." He said and knew that whoever did take that position over would have to hear a lot from Thomas. Not to mention, once he was better he'd waste no time in reclaiming that spot back. Sure that might cause some tension with the other person but knowing Thomas he'd just prove that he was better and things would be over then. Plus, this little incident would make him work that much harder for basketball season.

She looked up at Ryan and nodded. "And I'll push right back. You've got to learn one thing about the Greeks if you can't learn anything else about them. They are very proud, stubborn people." She said gently letting off a soft smile before she looked to Thomas. "I don't know if he's learned that yet, but he will soon enough if he does push me away." She said gently looking at Thomas for a moment. She looked back to Ryan and frowned softly. "Well, if he tries it again he'll have you and me dragging him back to his bed." She said gently looking at Ryan smiling before she looked back to Thomas.
"I hope you can hear this, Thomas, because I mean every word of it." She said to him hoping he was at least coherent enough to hear them. She looked back to Ryan for a moment in thought. "Does he play any other sports?" She asked gently looking to Ryan then Thomas as her thumb continued to subcontiously brush over his knuckles.

"He's very stubborn too but if you could break his concentration then you could probably get through to him very easily. Since he can slip into this mode where he focuses on one object and he kind of zones out." He said and then decided not to tell her about the time that Thomas had focused on the lines on the road for some reason and had zoned out and they'd almost ended up in the ditch because of it. Since that was the only time that Thomas had done something like that while he was driving and he figured that part of it had to do with the fact that he'd been a little tired. After that though he'd make Thomas pull over and he had driven the rest of the way even though he had been fifteen at the time. He figured that it was a lot safer then having Thomas drive and ending up getting into an accident. Although a little while after that Thomas had gotten an accident a few weeks after Alex's. But, the accident hadn't been because Thomas hadn't been paying attention. The other driven hadn't been and Thomas was just very lucky that the bridge he got his old truck pushed into was concrete and very solid. Otherwise he might have ended up in the river below and that thought send a chill down his spine.
"The only other thing that he plays is basketball. At least on a team anyway, he took up golf as a hobby. So maybe I'll convince him to try out with for the team with me if he really wants to. He's actually a pretty good golfer but he usually goes out there alone so he can really think about his game without people talking to him." He said and then watched as the hand that Jeanette wasn't holding twitched slightly before it stopped for a moment. Then it started again a few seconds later. "I wonder if that's normal." He said as he looked up from the hand to Jeanette.

She looked to Ryan and smirked gently. "Oh, don't worry, Greek stubborness always wins in the long run." She said teasingly trying to make Ryan smile, which he hadn't done since they got to the hospital it seemed. She hated being in the hospital and not seeing smiles. It was just something she didn't like becuase hospitals were already so somber and saddening in the first place.
She looked to Thomas and tried to picture him playing golf. She couldn't really see it all that well, but she had seen pictures of him playing basketball along with Alex. She looked down at Thomas's hand and frowned softly. "Either he's hurting, or he can hear us, and he's trying to respond, but I don't know." She said gently as she looked up at Thomas's face. She wished that he could talk or that he at least had his eyes open so that she knew he was alright for sure.

"Really, well them maybe I should try and get you to make him not overdo things. Since knowing him he'll try and do things too soon and with something like this it could end up disastrous. Because as much as I'd like to play babysitter all the time it's just not possible. But, if you could drill it into his head that he has to not try and do what the doctors tell him not to do then things would be a lot better." He said and then looked at her, he knew that she was trying to get him to laugh but he just couldn't. At least, not with Thomas still out of it. He was really starting to wonder if things would really work out like he now hoped that would. Such as Thomas getting better then the doctors expected and Alex finally getting it through his head that normal people didn't attack other people.
"I wonder what the odds are of him coming out of whatever state he's in soon." He said as he watched his hand start to twitch slightly again before it stopped. "I really wish I knew what was happening. But you'd think that if something was wrong then an alarm would have been set off or something." He said and then got up and started pacing around the room.
((Short but I'm off to bed.))

She frowned when Ryan didn't even give him the slightest hint of a smile. She looked at Thoams and she leaned back in her chair with her hand still holding his. She gave it a gentle squeeze for comfort then looked back up at Ryan. "He probably won't be completely coherent till later tonight or tomorrow." She said gently answering Ryan as she looked at Thomas as she brushed her thumb over his knuckles softly.
She looked to Ryan and nodded her head gently. "That's why I'm thinking that he can hear us and that's his only reaction he can actually get through." She said gently not stating what was really running through her mind. He was in a light coma no doubt and she was hoping to god that he would snap out of it soon. She jumped when she felt her phone vibrating in her pants pocket. She reahced and looked at the number. She asnwered it talking softly in Greek. She looked at Thomas as she listened to her mother talking on the other line for a moment then said something. There was a reassuring tone to her voice as she talked to her mother. She paused for a moment listening to her mother and she nodded and gave her a short reply. She smiled weakly and said something sweetly then hung up her phone.
"That was Mama. She wanted to make sure I was okay since I never came home last night." She said gently looking at Thomas in thought. Neils had told her everything that had happened between her and her brother because she asked her a few things that she had managed to get past without answering.
