Character's Name: Spencer Hayes
Age: 16
Grade: Junior
CliqueDesgarrado
Celeb Anton Yelchin
Height: 5 foot 11 inches or just about
Hair color: Dark brown
Eye color: Blue
Other Family Members: Just his parents
Personality The first thing to note is that Spencer is mildly autistic. This causes him to be very socially inept and incredibly intelligent. He has problems reading people's facial expressions, expression emotions, reacting to emotions and other such things that people just take for granted. He is a very literal thinker, as opposed to an abstract thinker. Everything that people say is taken literally, which means there is often a language barrier between him and other teenagers. He doesn't really express his own emotions (and everything is very literal and very specific for him) and thus has a constant, blank, empty face. His voice is also basically devoid of emotion.
He is very intelligent nd possesses an enormous amount of information for a 16 year old. He is very good with math and numbers, and history and dates, because that is all concrete and logical. Two and two will always equal four. Dates will never change. He's good at that. He reads absurdly fast and memorizes things without trying but memorization doesn't equal comprehension and he isn't very good at interpreting or inferring, making his English grades suffer. He gets nearly perfect scores in Math, Science and History but needs to take lower level English course despite his ability to recite any Shakespeare play in it's entirety. He's terrible at art classes and any assignment that requires creativity or interpretation.
Because of his intelligence and his basic inability to connect with people, he is terrible at making friends. The friendships he does have are mostly one sided on the part of the other person. But just because he doesn't show it doesn't mean he doesn't care for those friends he does have. And when he does connect with someone, it is a deep and unwavering connection. He is difficult to get along with, just because he doesn't understand so much, but he does try.
He is a very trusting person. He justs takes it for granted that people tell the truth. He's naive like that. He just thinks that, because he doesn't lie, no one lies and they just say what he means. Going along with this, he doesn't lie. Ever. He doesn't tell little white lies either. He discloses everything. But he also does what people tell him to. So, in theory, if someone told him to keep a secret, and another person asked about that secret, he would say something along the lines of "I cannot say."
He has the ability to focus on something to the exclusion of all else. He reads a lot, mostly science fiction because it appeals to his interests, and non fiction text books of all sorts. He can sit in a seat and focus on the little whorls in the wood table and be completely content. Little things call his attention and keep his focus.
At 16, Spencer has never kissed a girl (or guy for that matter, he's very sexually ambiguous), never really thought about it either. He spends most of his time alone, and is a very quiet person when with people. He likes red and blue and dislikes the color brown. He's simple, literal, and simply going along through life by set rules that maybe no one else sees.
Appearance: He's a very tall young man, almost 6 feet tall. His hair is dark brown and absurdly curly. It grows constantly and he doesn't cut it very often because, well, it isn't something that occurs to him. His eyes are blue and fit his face well. They are empty, and emotionless most of the time. He's been told he has cold, sad eyes, but he doesn't;t know what that means because it isn't logical. His face is skinny and almost gaunt. His eyes are a little sunk in, his cheek bones prominent.
He's skinny to the point of looking malnourished. His bones stick out and he's all knees and elbows. He favors tighter fitting shirts and pants just because he likes the way the cloth feels on his skin. He likes darker colors, reds and blues of course and avoids brown at all cost. His shoes are well worn sneakers and he carries a worn dark blue messenger bag for his books and such.
He has old burn scars on his forearms from his elbows to nearly his wrists. The skin there looks shinny, wrinkled and basically one large scar. It's from a childhood injury when he was trying to cook macaroni on the stove (the directions simply weren't literal enough and he nearly burned down the house) and the itches sometimes. It doesn't occur to him to hid them though, so when he's warm he wears short sleeved shirts without any thoughts of self-consciousness.
He's actually a cute cute kid, bordering on handsome and if his personality was a bit different he would catch the interests of a few girls (or guys, if that was there thing). He is completely unaware of this of course and doesn't think of his appearance much at all, cute or ugly.
History: Spencer spent the majority of his childhood in his house. He was home schooled until age 11 when he started middle school and he's attended boarding schools because that was what his parents said his therapist recommended. he's gotten help form his teachers, adjusting, getting extra work, that sort of thing. He does well without his parents, and goes to his therapist in the city near his school (he had to change therapists when he got into high school) once a week. When he was younger, he was much worse off then he is now. he was worse with people, worse with emotions, worse socially in general. He's been getting better with people, better with not taking things so literally. When he first got into high school, he spent the majority of his time in his dorm room, spending little time with people. He still spends the majority of his time with his books, but he's made a few friends over the years.
